Born in Maymyo (now called Pyun U Lin), Burma (Myanmar) 75 years ago. Came away to India in 1941 before the Japanese invasion. Did medicine in the Madras Medical College (1950 batch); joined the Madras Medical Service. For fifty years was closely associated with various aspects of the medical profession. Started career as a medical officer in a primary health centre in a remote part of Salem district in Northern Tamilnadu. The next posting was to the district hospital in the big town of Trichy. After post graduation in surgery was assistant professor and then professor of surgery successively in medical colleges in Chinglepet, Thanjavur, Kilpauk, and finally in the Madras Medial College. Was Vice Principal, Dean and finally Director of Medical Services of Tamilnadu. Was a GP before becoming a consultant in surgery. Has authored a text book in general surgery for dental students, and a book on the business of medical practice. Travel desire: Visited Myanmar in 2006. Often visits the U.S. where his 2 sons live.
